The Gorilla Vulnerability Crew is a community rooted in bringing expression, group support, and self awareness into this wild, crazy, and sometimes harsh feeling world out there. Every month we get together to embark on an experiment in vulnerability in Denver, CO. (Which, by the way, you can host in your own city as well. Get in touch to find out how.)
Check out the events below to get a sense of what’s to come.
Shout out to collaborators Soul Stories.
POETRY SLAM [LET YO’SELF BE SEEN]
Letting ourselves be seen, and opening ourselves up to others is one of the gifts of being human. We live in a time where we think that we must be a poet to write poetry, especially if we want to share it to an audience.
Have you ever written a poem? Have you ever stood in front of an audience and shared some form of expression of yourself? Do you know what it feels like to do this as a community?
That’s what this Gorilla Vulnerability experiment is about. We’re headed to a poetry slam where each of us is going to share to a live audience some poetry. Whether its about a cat in a hat, or a deepest darkest secret, or the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen, it’s all perfect.
EYE GAZING IN A PUBLIC SPACE [WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE TO CONNECT?]
Have you ever gazed into another human being’s eyes, in complete silence, and simply looked at one another? Human connection is one of the most incredible gifts we have. Yet, we live in a world where most of us would answer “never” or “rarely” to this question.
We’re setting up eye gazing tables at Denver’s 16th Street Mall, and inviting bystandars and our friends to sit down with us and simply let ourselves be seen. We’ll start be setting a timer for 2 minutes, and if you want to go longer, by all means, go for it.
What you’ll find is heart-warming, soul-nourishing, and beautiful. Find out what it feels like to let yourself be seen and truly see another human being.
THE SUNRISE TO SUNSET VISION QUEST PILGRIMAGE [CONNECT W/ OTHER CULTURES]
Writer and traveler Macrina Wiederkehr wrote in her book Behold Your Life, “A pilgrimage is a ritual journey with a hallowed purpose. Every step along the way has meaning. The pilgrim knows that life giving challenges will emerge. A pilgrimage is not a vacation; it is a transformational journey during which significant change takes place. New insights are given. Deeper understanding is attained. New and old places in the heart are visited. Blessings are received and healing takes place. On return from the pilgrimage, life is seen with different eyes. Nothing will ever be quite the same again.”
We’re going to embark on a sunrise to sunset walk or bike, rooted in the intention of what cultures and traditions centuries old value in these pilgrimages and vision quests. Together, we’ll go on a journey of the self.
